Slippery

I was going to blog about the horrid icy sleetage from yesterday, complete with pictures. However, technology wasn't in a friendly mood so instead I'll report that we also got snow. It's about damn time too. I went out yesterday just briefly and there were little pellets of ice all over the ground. Icicles dripping off the eaves, slick ice on the road - yesterday was all about the icy cold. I did go out and snap a few pics with the camera, but when I tried to send them to myself so I could post them it gave me some pay up message. I don't know if I wanna waste $5 on picture sending just yet, so there is a chance that phone-cam'ing the blog may be on the outs.

But last night it was all windy and crazy with the thunder and now instead of just plain ice we have a thin layer of snow. I should be out back busting ice for the cattle. Bleh - I don't feel like bundling up and hauling ice out of the tank today. The kitties are well enough to go out for a bit today, so maybe I'll make them come out with me and 'help.'

At RAMs place

Had a nice weekend out, driving about 5 miles out to Mineral Wells to see RAM's new carpet. His place is looking real nice, he's got so much inside there fixed up. Did the usual pleasant visitation - played cards, they twisted off and I had a smoke, and driving around on a little errandage. He gave me a nice antique tin, which is now magneted to the shelf.

This weekend and next are the last real weekends left before tax season becomes prison, as the hubby calls it. We're already planning to drive down to Lamesa for xmas, and there is a chance that RAM may show up there then too. Yay happy holiday moments.

I feel so popular now

I'm getting comment spam now, isn't that exciting? I just had to delete 3 of them. Hey, spam losers - go fuck yourselves!

General news

It's the usual chaotic mix, only this time there are things worth mentioning.

I had to do jury duty yesterday, which is why I've been stuck on this awful day schedule. Jury duty is annoying, and extra annoying when we get excused due to some paperwork technicality resulting in us wasting our time there. Not as much a botheration to me, since I don't work, but still a pain. I don't know if they're going to call me back for this particular case when this gets resolved. I hope not.

On the way back I hit the Muleshoe Animal Clinic to pick up Weezer. We had to get an abcess lanced on his ear, but he's nowhere near as bad as Lila. Her abcess is so big and nasty - nearly the size of a quarter, though it's healed up some. It's just this horrid, red seeping nastiness on her shoulder. And, of course, when she gets friendly she has to come at me wound first and try to rub the ick on me. She needs to heal faster.

We caught the Sci Fi Lost Room show this week. It's not bad, though there has to be a next story because they leave a huge end hanging. The only real complaint I have is a continuity error - the comb guy grabs money out of the cash register and picks up a coffee pot to smack some guy to escape, but later claims that you can't move objects while you're in frozen time. I totally buy that Miller was able to use the shovel to block the bullet later on, since he already had it in his hands when he used the comb - but I didn't see Stritzke's hands in the till before he combed his hair.

I did a quick shopping deal today - got me the Aeon Flux box set for me and something to wrap up for the hubby. I'm sure he suspects that's why I went to Clovis. I didn't manage to get away tin free this time, but I was good and only bought 2. I also decided to pick up lunch and bring it by the office today, since I'd be by there around noonish anyway. Long John Silvers almost got the sale today, but they were dumb and not open when I got there, so we went with the KFC instead. Mmmmmm, honey wings. The girls at the office thought it was so cute that we decided to have lunch together.

And now I'm back home, blogging all of this. Wheee...

Technology hates me

So my little suspicion that my phone has been replaced has proven to be right - I just got it in the mail today. See, the previous incarnation of phone had quit working, or rather it would tell me that it wasn't registered on the network when I tried to use it. I couldn't imagine why it would say that, and when I alerted the bro-in-law (who is our phone provider) to this and I got a somewhat vague response I had a feeling that he had carried through on his threat to replace it.

Okay, way too much setup. Anyway, I'm fighting with it. It's looking like we may have to replace the battery. I think I have it more or less configured the way I want it, except for the ringer. None of the ringers on it sound nice, and I don't feel like fighting with it to get it to download an acceptable one.

So far that's been the biggest gremlin issue lately. The DVD player gives me occasional shit, and the hubby's phone is pure satan (I will never use a Samsung flip phone, they are entirely anti-intuitive) but nothing to the point of wanting to take a sledge to either of them.

But it's only a matter of time.

Rejection

So I didn't make it into the Aberrant game. Bleh. I'm not sure exactly where on the scale between annoyed and relieved I am on this issue. I did decide to lurk the game, just to see if I'm actually missing out on anything.

This reminds me why I tend to be so insular in my gaming habits.

Random little cartoon

Holy crap, this is funny. I hope it's not just the sleep deprivation talking.

[added hours later]

Yes, I've been reading Partially Clips for hours now while I do other shit. This strip kicks ass, especially this one.

I won't post anymore right now, just browse through it because it is so worth it.

Okay, gonna bitch about it now

I have had it with the insanity of cold around here. There is still snow on the ground, though mostly dirty little drifts. Hey, weather - if you're gonna be so fucking cold all the time at least make with the more snow!

Evil commercials

Have you seen that fucking commercial for BMW with the kids screaming over their present? I want to slap them every time it comes on. I hate that commercial. That one and the "He went to Jerod's" one. (Or however you spell it.) Can he please go to "Shut the hell up!" for once? Or the one they've been showing for the new Top Chef - the one they've been showing for like 12 years now, that episode has been new since the dawn of fucking time. What is with that blonde woman and the grunting? Did they get one of the extras from Clan of the Cave bear on the show this season?

Those of you with TiVo have no idea what I'm talking about. Believe me, these commercials make the Pepto poop dance seem desirable.

Beige

My creative urge has been dead lately. Not entirely dead - I did decoupage a box today, but that's the first real urge I've had in a long time. It's weird, and others have noticed it too. There were several folks on my various pagan lists that have felt out of touch with their respective muses.

I dunno. I haven't felt the urge to make anything new lately. I haven't felt like I'm excited about anything. I feel so boring lately.

Because I haven't bitched about it lately

Play by post gaming is so slow that I think I'm going to lose my mind with anticipation of actually getting my players to some resolution of the plot. I worry that they're entirely out to sea because there is no constant flow.

It gets worse. Some dude posted an Aberrant game on Rondaks and for some horrid reason my brain wouldn't let it go. I spent 2 days trying to make a character for it, but it wouldn't work because the idea was too expensive. So I made another one and apped him to the game. I am still coming up with character ideas, and Aberrant isn't even a game that I'm clamoring to play. WTF? Now I'm going to have 4 games going so slow that I'm losing my mind.

Not Super, but not bad either

I spotted the Superman Returns DVD when we popped in to do the grocery shopping, and since that movie had been on my mind for a couple weeks I figured I'd just snag it and we'd watch it. It's a decent movie, but I wasn't wowed - I'm assuming this is the beginning of another continuing series of movies and it does an excellent job of that.

There are a few quibbles, of course. Why does his kid have to be frail? It just seems like too much of a plot device to me; it's way obvious as something that will be dealt with in a later movie. Also, the beginning credits were annoying - the whole zoom in and fade thing was difficult to read. (Although probably not so much on the big screen, but I so rarely see movies that way.) Those are the little ones, here's the big one: How in the hell can he pick up that giant island made of kryptonite? Isn't it supposed to radiate anti-super energy? The whole time he was flying around over the erupting land mass I couldn't figure out why he wasn't slowly weakening. I can buy it taking a while to affect him at range, but come on - that was one gigantic mass of kryptonite death, I have trouble buying that he could do as much as he did.

Anyway, still worth the watch.

So unbelievably gay

Okay, before I get into the terribly campy movie review I just have to start with this bit -

I have now seen not 1 but 2 entirely different ads for 'dungeon' music CDs. I giggled for like 10 minutes at the last one. Now, instead of sullying your own music collection you can buy porno music for when you have your slave tied up and you're deciding whether to whip him red or pee on him. How can you not laugh at this?

Anyway - Apparently I am a huge liar because now that we have the Logo channel I find I'm watching it for at least an hour pretty much every day. Queer As Folk is our weekly soap now, and we're trying to keep up with Noah's Arc. But what really got my attention today was Party Monster.

Oh yeah, do I love this movie. Watching Mac Culkin and Seth Green queening it up for 2 hours is so fucking funny. This is now the 3rd time I've seen it, and I think I may have to buy the disc because I can't get enough.

The hubby is entirely thrilled that Superstar DJ Keoki is portrayed by Wilmer Valderrama (you know, the foreign kid on That 70s Show). I am entirely thrilled that Angel the drug dealer is played by Wilson Cruz. He is so cute when he sneers "I want my money!" you just wanna hug the little thug and pinch his cheeks.

Among my many peculiar fascinations is the drug movie genre. Love 'em! There is nothing more fun than watching people do crazy shit and then fall apart in a crying miserable heap of drug addled hell. "Sid! What about the farewell drugs?!" And this movie so delivers. Party madness and wild music, crazy set designs, breaking the audience barrier, overdoses and rehab. I was in heaven.

So, needless to say, if you love tacky wacky movies you must see Party Monster.

Spoke too soon

Yeah. So after I posted that little bit about how I wasn't going to complain about the snow I decide to get ready for bed. Fortunately I decided to pee first, because that's how I discovered that we didn't have water. Oy. Apparently the insane winds blowing the snow into pretty drifts were also blowing the snow into the cracks in the wellhouse and freezing up the pipes.

Cut to me and the hubby bundled up and shoveling fek snow up against the wellhouse wall, then plastering it up into the cracks to keep the wind out so that heat would build up in there and thaw the pipes out. Gotta love the country living.
