The aftermath
I woke up to that song. You know the one. Fortunately there were donuts. And apparently I was in dire need of two buckets of Blue Bell and an ice cream cake. I'm gonna be so fucking huge by the end of the week, I tell ya.
Phone calls from various sources, of course. More singing. Plus various e-communications. It's nice to hear from y'all.
We sprayed poison on the annoying weeds. No, that wasn't supposed to sound exciting.
The presents I got will have to be returned - because what I thought was going to happen is exactly what happened. Hence, no surprise. Not that I mind, I'll still basically get what I wanted and now I have a good excuse to go to Clovis on Monday and fuck around for a few hours.
Somehow I got to not go to mass. I have a feeling my dad's a touch disappointed with this fact, but he's not giving any real sign of it. Once again I have dodged the religion argument bullet. He still wants me to see that awful Mel Gibson Jew-hating propaganda movie. But we'll get to that horror at another time.
So instead of Catholicy goodness I got to see Stardust instead. Not a bad movie. Deniro is funny as hell. (Plus a couple woofy pirates...) There were a couple points that kind of got under my skin, but in all it was a worthwhile movie experience. Also, it's apparently based on the graphic novel instead of the book, so some discrepancies are not an issue with me. It's nice to have my psychotic purist urge disarmed sometimes.
We met dad at Leal's for the big dinner moment. Apparently my b-day is popular, because they sang for three people before they got around to me. Mind you, I didn't want anybody singing at me in the restaurant (ever in my life), and it's not like I needed the giant free sopapilla that comes with the sombrero and clapping sing along, but it was all good.
And now, pretty much just hanging around the house. The ice cream cake was good, even though I had to wait until after midnight to get my sweet craving up again. I figure I'm just going to stay awake until I'm bored of it, so there is a chance that I will still be up when my dad gets up to drive home. It's been a nice visit (despite my constantly bitching about that particular thing) and I'm glad for it.
That's it.

Two things I found disappointing
Yes, I've been up all damn day.
#1 - Store brand clear nose strip things: I had to pinch the stupid thing on to get it to stick completely, then the glue decided that it wanted to live on me when I was done with the plastic it was glopped on. I only got them cuz for some reason you can only get the non-large of the brand name in a vapor variety, and I don't want my eyes watering while I'm trying to sleep.
#2 - The end of Hannibal Rising: Not a bad movie, but not really worth the PPV price we paid to see it. I was irked at how unbelievably anticlimactic the end was. I don't think I'll bother to read the book.

Long week
Holy crap! I was up in Santa Maria for a bit over a week and I barely saw anything past Laz and Shygirl's new place. Sushi, Gladius, City of Heroes CCG, Cthulhu 500 (which is an intensely bitchin' card game that you want to play), beer, rum, the Producers, The Cake Man Was Not Meant to Eat, Teen Titans CCG, more beer, entirely nonspecific green stuff in abundance - it's amazing I'm still conscious. Yes, I had a fantastic time. Wolf came up on Friday night in time for us to hit a (near) midnight showing of Grindhouse, which was entirely worth it but also worthy of an entry on its own if I get my brain on it, and then to help us make Saturday the biggest sushi grub on I've ever had the fortune to lay teeth on.
Tomorrow - recovery and the fam...

I got yer meat right here, buddy
Today I decided to wander on to Clovis so I could buy some magnets for my tin obsession and finish off a Wal*Mart card from xmas. Nice little trip to get me out of the house, ya know. Anyway, so when I get to the office to switch the pickup for the car with the hubby the UPS guy catches me. "Is that Gordon's pickup?" he asks, to which I respond in the affirmative. Seems he has a steak deliver for us, and wants to know if I'll just take it there or if he should just take it on to the house later that evening. (Sometimes this small town living is kinda handy.)
See - the hubby got one of those Omaha Steaks advert thingies that was apparently such a great deal that he couldn't resist getting it. I for one couldn't care less and wouldn't have bothered since we already buy frozen delivered flesh via Schwann. But whatever, he can do whatever he wants.
So when I got home from Clovis I figured the meat would have been waiting for me in the garage, but it wasn't. A little surprising, but I guess Mr. UPS had a busy route today. He just showed up a few minutes ago - with not 1 but 2 big styro cooler deals full of grub. Our freezer is now full of dead cow (and some dead pig, a few dead fish, and some seriously dead potatoes).
Me? All I want is the dry ice it came packed with.

A serious moment, for once
Things have taken something of a dark turn lately. Just a couple weeks back the hubby's aunt died. Originally he wasn't going to go because it's tax season, but on the day before the funeral he sort of talked himself into it. I didn't go, though I did the driving down to Lamesa. I was given an out on it that I almost didn't take, but since I wasn't able to really sleep the night before I figured it would be best for me to nap during the funeral so I would be fresh for the drive back home. I never met her, and I'm not really in with his family other than his mother and one brother, so my being there wasn't exactly a necessity.
Then, right around the same time, the grandmother of some good friends of mine passed away. Again, I never met her, but my heart goes out to the family. This is sort of making me nervous though, because that's 2 so far, and these things tend to happen in 3s (so they say). But it's not just that - see, there are now illnesses and injuries going around. My friend and web-hostess' brother is dramatically ill, as is our good neighbor. One of our friends in Farwell had a slip on the ice and is all bruised and banged up - and at his age a fall like that is not a good thing.
So now I'm in this strange state of knowing I should be in a worry loop, but not really feeling it. It's the anticipation of dread, but not actual dread. I don't want to concentrate on that though - it's ridiculous and it's all in my head. So instead, my prayers go out to those who are unwell, as well as to those who have lost loved ones. Peace and blessings to you all.

Stealing someone else's stuff
I realized tonight that I have some really snarky things to say about some people that I don't want to post here for fear that they might read it and be offended. It's not that I fear offending people, but these specific people are not ones I want to hurt, and believe me it probably would hurt, and I want to be nice.
So, with that totally irrelevant intro in mind I will steal the Shrug format of quasi-anonymous statements to people who may or may not read this blog. None of them involve the snark referenced in the previous paragraph, so don't look for it.
A: I'm sorry dude, but I really do not want to fuck you. Please don't take this personally because it's all me. I'm tremendously picky. It's not that I don't like you, because I do - I just don't want to get all crazy naked with you. Too much weirdness.
E: I'm not going to argue semantics with you because you don't even know what that means. Just because I'm younger than you doesn't mean I don't know what I'm talking about. I'm sorry that the way I use language is confusing to you.
I: I would really like to be friends with you, but your SO kind of gets in the way of it. Nothing involved, it's not like I want to hang out constantly and have in depth conversations all the time. I just want us to be on a friendly level. I think we kind of are right now, but it's hard to say, and the whole thing with your SO makes certain fuctup situations occur that I just don't know how to deal with. There is no way I can say any of this to your face, I'm sorry.
O: I have said some tremendously fuctup things about you. I am basically sorry about it, because it is fuctup and wrong, but it's funny as hell and I doubt I will stop doing it. I'd say it's not personal, because other than that I think you're pretty cool and a worthwhile person, but it is personal, terribly mean, and if you knew you would probably hit me. I should keep my mouth shut.
U: You, on the other hand, I do want to fuck. I want to fuck your brains out, scoop them up, and fuck them right back in. I want to dart you and keep you for a weekend. A 3-day weekend, and you may have to go home late afterwards. You will be dehydrated. None of this will happen though, and I'm over that brief awkward stage, so it's all cool now. If it looks like I'm aiming a hollow bamboo stalk at you, don't stand still.
Sometimes Y: I totally agree with you and the past should remain in the past. Things are better the way they are now.

Lag, yes I know
I have been lagging so bad that it looks like the front page is totally empty. (Well, except for that penis cartoon commentary below.) I'm a lazy biatch, what can I say? Normally this is when I'd do yet another choppy recap of whatever I can remember since the last time I bothered to blog, but I think that might not be worth it. So instead, here are a few highlights.
I went to church for xmas. No, I did not burst into flames immediately upon crossing the threshold of Lamesa 1st Baptist. In fact, the cammo was full on and everyone assumed I was nice and helpful and pleasant and xian. I behaved. I did not sing naughty lyrics to replace the words of xmas carols. I did not laugh when I saw "The First Nowell" appear on the big karaoke screen thing they have so you don't have to use the hymnal. I just smiled, stood occasionally, and shook hands. Here's what I don't get - why is Jesus allowed to make water into wine, but Baptists aren't allowed to even think about drinking it, even in the ritual meal deal where we have that tiny cracker and a shot of grape juice. Yeah, I know - we don't want to give booze to the kids, but come on. Jesus did it, you can too. Just don't tie the bottle to your wrist.
The hubby and I got thickly padded coveralls/bib overalls for xmas. This is a good thing, because freezing my ass off to bust ice sucks. Now I can just pull them on over my pajamas to go get the mail.
I'm irritated that I keep missing chunks of Heroes. That show is really cool and now I have to buy it on DVD so I can actually watch the whole damn thing without this gaping hole in the middle. If any of you watch it, do not tell me anything. I hate having surprises ruined. I'm also irritated that for some reason I am cursed to never see the myth of the exploding pants busted. That particular episode of Mythbusters (which I swear I watch for more reasons than Jamie's mustache) comes on, and somehow something happens so that I miss it. WTF is up with that?
I found Civilization III at the Dollar General for $6 and I can't stop playing it. I curse that game constantly (because it cheats) and still I come back for more. Those little blue Chinese bastards will rue the day they crossed my border!
Had a great weekend. Had a friend over for the first time in far too long and we stayed up all night playing card and dice games. It's nice to have a visit once in a while, and coming into tax season now means I may have to get creative with my entertainment. Good thing I drive now.
Okay, that's it for now. If I think of anything else I'll throw it on.

General news
It's the usual chaotic mix, only this time there are things worth mentioning.
I had to do jury duty yesterday, which is why I've been stuck on this awful day schedule. Jury duty is annoying, and extra annoying when we get excused due to some paperwork technicality resulting in us wasting our time there. Not as much a botheration to me, since I don't work, but still a pain. I don't know if they're going to call me back for this particular case when this gets resolved. I hope not.
On the way back I hit the Muleshoe Animal Clinic to pick up Weezer. We had to get an abcess lanced on his ear, but he's nowhere near as bad as Lila. Her abcess is so big and nasty - nearly the size of a quarter, though it's healed up some. It's just this horrid, red seeping nastiness on her shoulder. And, of course, when she gets friendly she has to come at me wound first and try to rub the ick on me. She needs to heal faster.
We caught the Sci Fi Lost Room show this week. It's not bad, though there has to be a next story because they leave a huge end hanging. The only real complaint I have is a continuity error - the comb guy grabs money out of the cash register and picks up a coffee pot to smack some guy to escape, but later claims that you can't move objects while you're in frozen time. I totally buy that Miller was able to use the shovel to block the bullet later on, since he already had it in his hands when he used the comb - but I didn't see Stritzke's hands in the till before he combed his hair.
I did a quick shopping deal today - got me the Aeon Flux box set for me and something to wrap up for the hubby. I'm sure he suspects that's why I went to Clovis. I didn't manage to get away tin free this time, but I was good and only bought 2. I also decided to pick up lunch and bring it by the office today, since I'd be by there around noonish anyway. Long John Silvers almost got the sale today, but they were dumb and not open when I got there, so we went with the KFC instead. Mmmmmm, honey wings. The girls at the office thought it was so cute that we decided to have lunch together.
And now I'm back home, blogging all of this. Wheee...

Stuff
This entry is going to be all over the place. I don't really have much in the way of interesting bloggage, I just have little comments to dispense.
We got a freebie weekend of the next higher up package on the satellite. This included Logo, which is the gay channel. (Yes, there is a channel that is gayer than Bravo.) I have never seen so many commercials for exercise machines, baldness cures, anti-fat pills and dance music mixes. And they break for these commercials every couple minutes. No wonder people think queers are self obsessed and materialistic. The hubby wants to get Logo, personally I don't care - it would be nice to have it I suppose, but I don't want to have to watch it just because they say 'gay' on it every 15 seconds.
Oh, and speaking of commercials - I want the head of the guy who came up with the Pepto 'diarrhea dance' commmercials. If I have to watch some fool groping his ass to the beat one more time I am going to scream myself into a coma. That dance is an abomination!
We got our freeze this weekend - all the trees in the front yard are naked and the 4-o'clocks are now nothing but sticks. It seems to have upset the cats a bit as they aren't used to dealing with the horrible cold. It hasn't snowed on us yet, but it better - this drought nonsense has gotten entirely tired.
And now something nice: look, look right down there under this entry. Yep, it has the category listing now. I know it's painfully obvious but it has to be said - my hostess the PhotoNinja rules. I figure I'll get some more bits fine tuned as I get around to working on this here blog, but really that was the only little detail that I really wanted situated. Yes, I know - I am entirely too involved with those cutesy little labels.
It looks like we're going to be hosting again for the holidays this year. It's not set entirely in stone, but we're leaning that way already and I'm sure that's how it's going to work out. Which is fine, actually. It would be nice to get out of the house for a holiday, but it isn't going to kill me to cook in my own oven. I'm sure it'll be a small affair, with just the 4 of us here, so it's not like I have to go all out with the mega feast. But I suppose I should try getting off my ass this week and maybe get some of the house in decent shape.
I got a pack of Wrigley's new Kona Creme coffee flavored chewing gum the other day. I had to - it just needed me to try it out. It's not bad, it does taste like coffee but it has that aspartame aftertaste after you've chewed it awhile. I don't know if it's caffeinated or not, but it should be.
You know who else rules? Invader Zim, that's who. Bow down to your DOOM!
